Our Embellishment Services

Sheet sizes

We can process any sheet size up to 1050 x 750mm. However, there are some minor limitations on image area dimensions within a nominated sheet size. Please refer to us if your design area extends close to the edge of a sheet.

Materials

We work with papers and paperboards in specifications which are commonly used in Australia. If you are considering using either lightweight, very heavyweight or strongly textured materials, then consultation with us is desirable to ensure that the design you have chosen can be satisfactorily reproduced.

We also handle plastic materials such as PVC and polypropylene in thicknesses up to 1.4mm.

Coatings

Most coatings are stampable, including normal offset machine varnishes, gloss or matt plastic coatings and calendered surfaces, but care is needed with UV inks and varnishes to ensure that their specifications have been modified to make them foil stampable.

It is recommended that your varnish or coating suppliers are made aware in advance that foil stamping and/or embossing is going to be applied to their products.

Foil Range

Besides commonly used bright golds and silvers there are many other foils available including colours, special effects, diffractional and holographic patterned styles. Please ask us for a shade selector which you may use for reference purposes.

Embossing styles

Depending on the result required we utilise single level, multi level or contoured treatments incorporated into dies made from either magnesium or brass. If designs are shown to us in advance you can receive our advice on what type of die is best suited for your application, and guidance too with regard to desirable line thicknesses and stock selection.

Consultation

As with most things, good initial preparation and planning usually yields the best end result, and so it is with foil stamping and embossing. We strongly recommend close consultation with us, if not in the early stages of design, then certainly before film making and/or printing. Thus you may use our expertise to your advantage.

R Lorimier & Co Pty Ltd

A leading trade supplier of foil stamping and embossing
services to the printing and packaging industries.

Since our establishment in 1876, the thread integral to our
success and growth has been our reputation for honesty and
dependability, a genuine concern for the wellbeing of our
customers, suppliers and employees, and the constant
maintenance of high standards in all aspects of our operations.

Reuben Lorimier founded R Lorimier & Co Pty Ltd in 1876, and in so doing became the pioneer of embellishment in Melbourne.

He was born in 1843 in London and learned the craft of gold stamping from his father to whom he was apprenticed. At the age of 25 he travelled to New York where he gained valuable experience working with several leading publishers.

After 9 years he voyaged to Australia and set up his stamping business in Selbourne Chambers, Collins Street Melbourne. A move was made to Lincoln Street Richmond in 1889 and operations continued there until he sold to Felix Levey in about 1912.

It is worthy of note that in those early days all stamping was done using manually operated machines, and it was not until the early 1960's that automatic machines arrived on the scene. The first of these to come to
Australia - an Heidelberg GTP Platen - was installed at Lorimier in August 1961.

After the second world war one of Felix Levey's daughters, Odette, and her husband Alf Wilks, took over the running of the business, and continued with it at Laity Street Richmond until 1985 when the Company was purchased by its present owner - Bruce Johnston.

Continual growth necessitated a move to 404 George Street Fitzroy in 1992, and yet again to 59 Sheehan Road Heidelberg West in 2003. Lorimier is a leading trade supplier of foil stamping and embossing services to the printing and packaging industries.

The thread which has been integral to the Company's success and growth throughout its long history has been its reputation for honesty and dependability, its genuine concern for the wellbeing of its customers, suppliers and employees, and the constant maintenance of high standards in all aspects of its operations.
